VICTOR RAY COVER HOS PUSHING BOUNDARIES WINTER ISSUE 2024 (PRE-ORDER)

With a population of nearly nine million, for some, London can be a daunting place. However, for singer Victor Ray, when he moved to the Big Smoke from Newcastle six years ago, he wasn’t really intimidated. “I was just excited,” he recalls to me over Zoom. “It did strike me as busy, but that just made me say to myself, ‘you need to get to work, there’s a lot of people here and everyone is in a rush!’”

This confidence could come from Victor’s ease with people, something which is apparent even via a computer screen, or it could be with the rather unique way that Victor got to know Londoners: through busking. “I know a lot of people think Londoners are rude and harsh, and we can be,” he admits, “but through busking I got to see London in a nice light.” Interestingly, Victor now counts himself as a Londoner, his absence of a Geordie accent a testament to this.
